The Irish have a very rich history especially whenever it comes to wedding traditions. If you are trying to decide on what your Irish wedding invitations will look like there are many options available for you. If you are fortunate enough to have an Irish heritage the wedding is a great opportunity for you to include some of the customs of your ancestors.

If you truly want to go with the more traditional Irish wedding you will probably one to include a Celtic theme. Over 1000 years ago the Celts were one of the first civilizations to have written books called illuminated manuscripts. It is from this time period that the interwoven Celtic designs were derived. You will most likely want to use some of the traditional Celtic knots and designs.

The font that is chosen for the invitation will also add to the message of the invitation being Irish. I would suggest a typeface called Neue Hammer Unziale LT Std its if you’re trying to find something that is characteristic and you plan on doing this yourself. I would not use this typeface for the entire invitation because it would just be too overwhelming. Instead it would be good to think of this typeface as icing on the cake just like you would a script font. You will probably want to use a traditional typeface that is more easily legible like Baskerville to contrast with this.

Also the paper that you choose will go along way to making you are invitations you know a bit more authentic. You will probably want to try and find a paper that is more parchment like so that it emulates the manuscripts.

Of course what this all being said you might want more of a contemporary spin on the I Irish wedding invites that don’t necessarily reiterate the Celtic manuscripts but still pays homage to your heritage. Perhaps you’re just looking for something that is a bit different from what you’ve seen over and over again. In this case I would suggest using some of the traditional designs that may be adding in some other things still add depth and texture that may even say something about your life. Something that I think might be beautiful is to add engagement photos in with the Celtic designs. Another idea would be to add in some watercolor or evenings and drawings of places in Ireland. You may even have a place that is special to you and your spouse to be. Suffice it to say there are many ways to go about designing the Irish wedding invitation and it might just come down to what type of Irish wedding you plan on having.
